This Vintage Lay's Potato Chip Counter Top Store Spinner Rack Display features Sign Topper with a Red, white and blue image of their mascot "Oscar the Happy Potato".   Back when I worked for Frito, we called these displays "Spinner Trees."
Based upon the style of logo and the use of "Oscar" ,this rack is from the mid 1950's, long before the H.W. Lay Company merged with the Frito's Company.
These are pretty rare, especially in this condition.  I've only seen one come up for sale in the past 5 years.
The display stands 21 3/4" tall and the base is 9 3/4" in diameter. It is made of chrome plated steel wire.  Attached to the top of the rack is a 3" x 4 1/2" double-sided painted metal sign with the Lay's logo and a cheerful "Oscar".
These racks were used to display 'cards' of nuts that would slide onto the sides.
Very good condition.  Rack spins freely.  The paint on one side of the sign is is bright and clear with minimal yellowing, the other side does show some fading.  95% of the chrome is still intact.  I'd rank the overall condition at 85+ on a 100 point scale.  Certainly the nicest one I've ever seen.  Se my detailed high definition to fully appreciate the wonderful condition of this vintage piece of history.
