Koontz 18" Archtop # 3009 J.C. 18

Koontz blonde 18” archtop. Extremely rare late sixties archtop by one of the greatest Jazz guitar luthiers of all time. He was recognized as being on the level of  Stromberg, John D’Angelico and D’Aquisto. The market is flat right now, hence the low asking price. This will be back up at ,000 in the coming years and has nowhere to go but up in value. Only one other Koontz archtop of this caliber is currently on the market in a tobacco sunburst finish.  Nothing beats the natural finish on this one. AkiraTsumura, who had the most comprehensive collections of Archtops in the world noted that Koontz was the most innovative of all of the modern Archtop makers and featured an example very similar to mine in his stunning tome, 1001 Banjos which also includes a section on modern Archtop makers. The tone of this guitar is nothing short of miraculous, and the fit and finish, especially the unique design of the F holes is second to none. OHSC

For your consideration is a deconstructed James Ashborn no.3 guitar.  Given the amount of damage done to the instrument during its life it was deemed not restorable so I utilized the original tuners that were still installed to use on another Ashborn and thought that it might be cool to have the body cut in half to use as a teaching tool to show the internal bracings.  However, I just do not have space in my classroom or in my house.  Anyhow, someone did a pretty bad glue job inside so if someone buys this and wants to utilize it for the same reasons as me you will probably want to sand down the glue a bit.
